Students Explore Their Futures at Career Day

Students recently had an opportunity to explore many different career choices at Career Day 2008. The one day program brought in over 20 speakers from various careers to educate students on career choices.

Speaker topics included education, law enforcement, accounting, journalism, healthcare, graphic design and social work, among others. Students attended several sessions throughout the day and discussed career choice, working conditions, education and training, compensation, advancement, and social qualifications.

Three IA Basketball Players Selected to Hamburg Sun All-Star Team

The Hamburg Sun has announced its 2007-08 All-Star Basketball Teams, which include IA sophomore Tara Quinn on first team with senior Anne Wapshare and sophomore Jill Fitzner making second team.

In her first year on the varsity level, Quinn averaged a team-high 11 points and four steals per game. She quickly worked her way into the starting lineup, helping to lead the Bears to an 18-4 regular season record and a semi-final birth in the NYSAAIS state tournament.

As this year's co-captain, Wapshare contributed nine points and seven boards per game and became an important floor leader for a young team.

Fitzner made quite an impression in her first season as a starter. She averaged 10.4 points and a team-leading 7.7 rebounds per game, showing off her ability to dominate under the basket.

    IA names Character Council honorees

Students who represent the definition of “deference” were nominated, honored and recognized by their peers at Immaculata Academy, as part of the Character Council of Hamburg, Inc., program.

Defined as “courteous respect for people's feelings,” the past month’s trait of deference honored one student from each high school grade including freshman Jessica Weiss, sophomore Meghann Knott, junior Jacquelyn Orchard, and senior Erin Iglewski.

The mission of the Council is to help the Town of Hamburg be a town of good character, by strengthening its citizens, their families, and the community as a whole, by promoting and displaying excellence in character.

The theme for March/April is compassion.
