2009 X-Country Schedule (updated 10/29/09)

11/30/09 - IA runners Gabby Leo and Kaitlyn Lopez competed in the Foot Locker North East Regional Cross Country Championships at Sunken Meadow Park on Long Island, over the Thanksgiving weekend, finishing 69th and 86th, respectively. Runners representing nine northeastern states competed in the prestigious race. Gabby Leo was also named to the 2009 All-WNY Cross Country team (honorable mention), as selected by a panel of Section VI coaches. Gabby is the only private school runner to make the list.

11/23/09 - Gabby Leo and Kaitlyn Lopez ran in the NYS Federation Championships on Saturday, finishing 92nd and 210th, respectively. Gabby finished in 20 minutes 32 seconds, which was 2:30 better than last year. In her first state competition, Kaitlyn finished with a time of 22:32. Both girls will compete next weekend in the Foot Locker Race in Long Island, with a chance to qualify for national competition in San Diego, CA.

11/9/09 - After nearly two weeks off, the Bears were couldn't wait to get back on a course and run in a competitive meet. And it showed. IA finished in second place in Sunday's Monsignor Martin Championships, with Gabby Leo finishing 1st overall and Kaitlyn Lopez 4th. Both girls will represent IA at State Federation Championships November 21, at Bowdoin Park, Wappinger Falls, NY. Leo and Lopez were also selected as First Team All-Catholic runners.

10/29/09 - IA finished the regular season on Tuesday, defeating Mt. St. Mary's 15-50, bringing their league record to 5-1. The girls will now prepare for All-Catholic Championships, which are scheduled for Sunday, November 8 @ Elma Meadows. IA's top finishers from Tuesday's meet include:

Natalie Schichtel - 3rd
Natalie Vetter - 4th
Amanda Vetter - 5th

10/27/09 - After finishing second at last weekends Dunkirk Invitational, including a first-place finish by Gabby Leo, the Bears followed up with another second place finish at the Clarence Invite this weekend. Top IA finishers from the Clarence Invite included:

Nora O'Malley - 25th
Natalie Vetter - 36th

10/16/09 - IA remained undefeated in league meets, knocking off Mt. Mercy this week, 16-45. Top finishers included:

10/5/09 - The Bears traveled to the McQuaid Invitational this weekend, finishing 3rd in their division. The girls will head to Manhattan for their next meet, competing in the Mnahattan Invitational next weekend. Top finishers from McQuaid included:

Kathy Vetter - 40th
Amanda Vetter - 49th
Natalie Vetter - 63rd

9/30/09 - IA hosted their first-ever home cross country meet on Tuesday, defeating Holy Angels, 18-45. The top five finishers for the Bears included Gabby Leo (1st), Kaitly Lopez (2nd), Kathy Vetter (4th), Amanda Vetter (5th), and Nora O'Malley (6th). Immaculata is the only team in the Monsignor Martin Association with a certified cross country course, on school grounds.

On Saturday, the girls traveled to Grand Island for the Beaver Island Invite, placing second in a very competitive Division III field. Top finishers included:
Gabby Leo: 2nd
Kaitlyn Lopez: 6th
Natalie Schichtel: 10th
Kathy Vetter: 12th
Amanda Vetter: 18th
Natalie Vetter: 24th
Nora O'Malley: 29th

Following Saturday's meet, Gabby Leo was selected as one of the Buffalo News 'Runners of the Week,' as voted on by a panel of area coaches.

9/21/09 - The Bears finished 4th out of 17 teams at the West Seneca Invitational on Saturday. They are now ranked 7th in NYS Class D, amongst 256 teams and ranked 6th amongst Section VI small schools. Top finishers on Saturday included:

28th: Kathy Vetter

9/16/09 - The girls defeated Sacred Heart, 19-39, on Tuesday afternoon, notching their first league win of the season. Top finishers included:

9/14/09 - The Bears opened their season on a high note on Saturday afternoon, finishing in second place in a very strong field of 19 teams at the JFK Invitational. Top finishers for the Bears included:
